1964 1/2 - 1973 Mustang Spindle Information
Use this page for a breakdown of original/OEM spindles for 1964 1/2 - 1973 Mustangs. Useful for making sure you have the correct spindles when purchasing a drum-to-disc brake conversion kit.
Year | Engine | Information |
1964 1/2 - 1966 | Six Cylinder (170 / 200) | All six cylinder spindles are the same regardless of engine* |
1964 1/2 - 1966 | V8 (260 / 289) | All V8 spindles are the same regardless of disc/drum brakes* |
1967 | All | All spindles are the same regardless of engine or disc/drum brakes* |
1968 | All | Drum and disc brake spindles are different from each other.* Spindles for 1968 drum brakes are the same as 1967 spindles. |
1969 | All | Drum and disc brake spindles are different from each other.* Spindles for 1969 drum brakes are the same as 1967 (drum/disc) & 1968 (drum) spindles. Disc brake spindles are the same as 1968 disc brake spindles. |
1970 | All | Drum and disc brake spindles are different from each other.* |
*IMPORTANT NOTE:
Basically ALL drum-to-disc brake conversion kits are meant to work with your original DRUM brake spindes (if there is a difference between drum/disc). For example a 67-69 disc brake conversion fits 67-69 DRUM spindles since 67-69 drum spindles are all the same.
64-66 does not matter since V8 drum/disc spindles are all the same, however keep in mind that 64-66 six cylinder spindles do not work with standard 64-66 V8 disc brake conversion kits.
1970 are all by themselves as the spindles are different to all 64-69 spindles and as such all disc brake conversion kits will be separate 70-only. As with 67-69 the conversion kits will fit 70 DRUM spindles only.
